I began working with Colleen M. roughly two years ago (my sophomore year of high school). At the time, I urgently needed a Chemistry tutor to help me prepare for the midterm I had the following week. I wasn't working with a tutor at the time, and Colleen had a last-minute cancellation because I met with her the same day we called. I met with her for 90-minutes and walked away feeling confident in the material and ready to take the midterm. After performing really well on the exam, I knew that Colleen was the perfect tutor to help me finish the rest of the year in chemistry. My overall grade in the class went up roughly 30% by the time the academic year ended. Before we went on summer break, Colleen mentioned that she also tutored in other academic areas, such as Biology, Physics, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and many others. In junior year, I took Physics and Algebra II, and Colleen helped me understand each topic by adapting what I was assigned to fit my individual learning style. Despite meeting virtually, Colleen has been able to help me master topics that initially seemed impossible and challenge me to think bigger. Colleen would help me with either Physics or Algebra II (depending on which one needed the most attention), helping me memorize formulas with fun mnemonics, making study guides with me, going over previous assessments/homework assignments, etc. Colleen also tutored me to prepare for the SAT I took in March and then again in June. Knowing my learning style so well, she recommended that I take the ACT to see if it is more straightforward. She was right! Colleen worked with me at least once a week all summer until I took the ACT in late July. I was pleasantly surprised to see my score and knew that Colleen was to thank for it. Now, as a senior, I work with Colleen on Pre-Calculus, which is a class that challenges me frequently. Ultimately, having Colleen as a tutor completely changed my profile as a student and now as a college applicant. I will continue using and applying the study skills Colleen has taught me through college and beyond. I'd highly recommend working with Colleen! I had no idea how I learned best or how to study efficiently, but Colleen changed that for me. I plan to continue working with Colleen through senior year and will definitely continue working with her after graduating!
